About Parker County Master Gardeners

By June, Weatherford smells faintly of peaches, and hand-lettered fruit signs sprout along the roads leading out into the post oak country of the Cross Timbers. Parker County Master Gardeners tends lawns and garden beds in a town that has always taken pride in what it can grow. In the cool of the forenoon, the grass is mowed into even rows, a trimmer traces the walk, and beds are weeded until dark soil shows clean between the plants. By the time the heat climbs over the rooftops, the yard stands green and composed, set for a long Texas July. It is patient, grounded work, fitting for a place that knows how to wait on a harvest.
