South of downtown, the old mission acequias still carry water beside the San Antonio River, and the idea behind them has never left this city: put water exactly where the ground needs it. Texas Roots Landscape and Irrigation works in that spirit across San Antonio, tending lawns, landscapes and the irrigation lines beneath them through Augusts that are hot before the sun clears the rooftops. Much of the job happens out of sight, sending water down deep enough that the roots follow it and hold on when the heat parks over the city for weeks. Above ground it shows as St. Augustine thick and cool underfoot, beds that sit clean against the stone, and a yard that looks like it chose to be green. In a place this dry and this bright, that green is earned one well-aimed zone at a time.
