Austin Gardeners

About Austin Gardeners

Pflugerville carries the name of the Pflugers, German farmers who settled this rolling stretch of prairie north of Austin, and something of their patient, hands-in-the-dirt spirit lingers in its gardens. Austin Gardeners tends gardens here today, planting, weeding, trimming and keeping beds and lawns neat. Spring mornings are the sweet spot: cool air off Lake Pflugerville, a mockingbird running through every song it knows, the dark soil soft enough to work by hand. Gardening at that hour has an unhurried rhythm, and by May the results show in full borders, crisp edges and plants with room to breathe. Fitting work for a town whose very name begins with the German word for plow.
