New Caney grew up in the pine woods northeast of Houston, beside the creek that lent the place its name, and plenty of its yards still back right up to the trees. Altura Landworks takes that wooded ground and makes it work as a yard, with landscaping and lawn care for properties set along the forest edge. The cool months suit the work, before the heat and the mosquitoes return, when light pours through the bare sweetgums and the damp ground is easy to shape. Tall pines, heavy rains and humid summers all decide what will thrive here, and the goal is a property that meets the street with a tidy, open face. When the redbuds bloom along the back fence and fresh grass fills in thick, the yard looks less carved out of the forest than grown there on purpose.
