The German settlers who founded New Braunfels built with the stone they found underfoot, and the old stone houses near downtown still show how well local material suits local ground. Texas Native Landscape plants by the same logic, working with grasses, shrubs and wildflowers native to this corner of Texas, plants already at home with its droughts and its sudden downpours. In April, when bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush spill across the roadsides, a native yard echoes that same wild color by the front walk. Through the hottest weeks the plantings hang on, and by fall the bunchgrasses turn copper in the low light. The result belongs to the place it grows in, and looks it.
