Gregg County Master Gardeners

About Gregg County Master Gardeners

Longview grew up fast on the East Texas oil boom, yet beneath the derrick stories it has always been a gardener's town, with sandy red soil, generous rain, and pines and sweetgums crowding every horizon. These Gregg County gardeners bring that green inheritance into Longview's yards and beds, working with the soil and the seasons to keep lawns and gardens growing. Spring here is a riot of azaleas, summer is a humid test of patience, and the mild, lingering fall is the time to plant for the year ahead. South of town the land dips toward the Sabine River bottoms, wet and dark, and something of that river's richness turns up in every garden. What grows from all this is more than flowers: a town that takes pleasure in its own ground.
