Halfway down I-45 between Houston and Galveston, Dickinson lives beside its bayou, a slow tea-colored water winding east toward the bay beneath oaks and air thick enough to drink. Grass here doesn't so much grow as surge; give St. Augustine one warm rain and a week of Gulf sun and it swallows the sidewalk and creeps into the beds. American Landscape Services keeps that abundance in its lanes, with mowing, trimming, bed work and landscaping that hand a yard back its shape. The moment to see it is just after an afternoon shower blows through, when the clipped turf steams faintly and every edge shows sharp against wet concrete. Then the breeze comes in off the water and the whole street eases into evening.
