Sod Gods

About Sod Gods

August in Dallas is a test the grass has to pass. The blackland clay under the city bakes until it splits into cracks you could lose a pocketknife in, the cicadas hum like power lines, and by three o'clock the thermometer has usually cleared a hundred. Sod Gods keeps lawns going through that stretch, mowing and edging, cutting back the runners that creep across driveways and clearing away what the mower leaves behind. The work starts early, while the sprinklers are still ticking and the air holds a little of the night's cool. When the first September rain finally arrives, the yard is still there to drink it.
