Diamond Scenery

About Diamond Scenery

Once in a while a winter ice storm slips into Dallas overnight, and by morning every live oak and crape myrtle is cased in glass, the whole city glittering and creaking under a pale sun. It lasts a day, maybe two; then the dripping begins and the grass shows through again. Diamond Scenery could have been named on a morning like that, but its lawn care belongs to the long green months that follow. The sparkle that matters most is ordinary: dew on a fresh-cut lawn at dawn, a trimmed edge glinting along the path, a yard that catches the eye from the corner. Dallas gets its diamonds from the sky only a few mornings a winter; the rest come from patient hands down here on the lawn.
