Urban Dirt

About Urban Dirt

Downtown Austin in August is cranes, glass and heat, and then, around sundown, more than a million Mexican free-tailed bats stream from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in a long, dark ribbon over the Colorado River. It is a reminder that this city's wild side lives right in the middle of its concrete. Urban Dirt brings lawn care to the smaller patches of green that city living leaves behind, narrow strips by the street, pocket yards behind new townhomes, bungalow lawns squeezed between taller neighbors, all kept mowed, edged and swept. Real dirt still matters in a fast-growing city, and a tidy square of grass is a gift to the whole block. Even on a lot the size of a parking space, the grass can look like it belongs.
