Winter Garden sits on the south shore of Lake Apopka, and at sunset the big lake goes copper and wide, with herons lifting off the marsh edge. The lake has spent decades coming back to health, and the town beside it has learned to prize green things looked after with care. Hurst Lawn and Ornamental works both halves of its name: the turf, and the ornamental plantings, the shrubs and flowering plants that give a yard its shape. Late in the year, when the air clears and the evenings cool, a mown lawn ringed by shaped ornamentals glows in that long lakeside light. It is the kind of yard that looks right at the hour the whole sky turns.
