Solaris Garden

About Solaris Garden

In June the sun climbs almost straight overhead, and by midafternoon the clouds west of Southwest Ranches have stacked into towers above the Everglades. Solaris Garden, a name that suits this sky, keeps lawns ahead of the wet season, when grass can seem to lengthen between breakfast and lunch. The work happens in the bright hours before the storm: mowing, trimming around posts and tree trunks, clippings blown off the walks. Then the rain drums across the paddocks, the thunder rolls off toward the coast, and the road steams in the returning light. What's left behind is a yard that looks rinsed and deliberate, green as a new leaf against the dark wet earth.
