Design By Nature

About Design By Nature

Beneath Miami's yards lies oolite, a pale limestone that formed under an ancient shallow sea and still rings against a shovel on the first dig. Design By Nature takes on that stubborn ground across the city, shaping landscapes and keeping lawns where topsoil is thin and bedrock is never far below. The name suggests letting the land lead, and this same rock ridge once carried pine rocklands, saw palmetto and wild coontie long before there were streets. A garden that suits this ground looks at ease in the dry months and takes the summer rains in stride. That ease, coaxed out of solid rock, is what this work is after.
