Long after the sea turtles have hauled themselves back into the surf off Hutchinson Island, the sprinkler systems of Jensen Beach begin their rounds in the pre-dawn dark. Controlled Irrigation looks after that quiet, unseen work, keeping lawn irrigation running on time and in the cool hours, before the sun can steal the water. Jensen Beach is a lagoon town, looking out across the Indian River Lagoon toward the Atlantic, and yet the dry winter months can fade a yard surprisingly fast with water on every side. A system set right keeps the grass soft underfoot on the streets running down to the lagoon long after the last rain. It is fitting care for ground that, back in the town's pineapple-growing days, was already teaching people what sandy Florida soil asks for.
