After a July thunderstorm passes over Jacksonville, the night comes up warm and dripping, the tree frogs start their chorus from every hedge, and the big leaves of a Southern magnolia shine as if they had been lacquered. Johnson Landscape Lighting works in that wet, glittering dark, placing light so a yard becomes something worth stepping outside to see after sundown. A beam aimed up into the magnolia turns its leaves to bronze and silver; a low fixture along a bed catches each raindrop still hanging on the foliage. Steps and walkways take on a low, even glow, and the face of the house comes forward out of the shadow. Long after the storm has rumbled off toward the coast, the garden is still out there in the night, lit and gleaming and wholly at home.
