About Big Tree Inc.

Fort Myers knows what a tree can grow into: on the grounds of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, a single banyan has spread into something closer to a grove, its aerial roots dropping like pillars. Big Tree Inc. works among the city's big canopies — live oaks, palms and tropical shade trees that give a lot its shape and its afternoon cool. Careful pruning keeps limbs off roofs, opens a crowded crown to the Gulf breeze, and lets a tree go on growing into the landmark it wants to be. Where August squalls blow in off the Gulf, an open, balanced canopy is something to stand under proudly. The aim is trees that look as though they chose the spot themselves.
