The Quinnipiac River winds south through North Haven toward the salt marshes, past the clay banks that once fed the town's brickyards. Sandweiss Tree Services is a tree business working in the yards of this river town, where oaks and maples throw their shade over lawn after lawn. With so many branches overhead, the work keeps the trees and the lawn on good terms: limbs that need attention, the grass beneath kept cut and clear, fallen wood and leaves hauled away after a windy night. On a gusty March morning, with the river running high and gray, a yard picked clean of storm debris is a welcome sight. From the top of Peter's Rock, North Haven looks like one wide canopy, and every yard below it holds a piece of that green.
