On a July evening at Greenwich Point you can watch a storm gather over the Sound and come across the water in a slow gray curtain. Summer Rain shares its name with that kind of weather, and it tends Greenwich yards that live by the shore's heat and its sudden relief. Between storms, lawns are mowed evenly and edged neatly, so grass that drinks in a passing shower is ready to look sharp afterward. After the squall moves east and the evening sun turns the wet blades to glitter, an Old Greenwich lawn fresh from the mower smells of earth and salt.
