October brings the Santa Ana winds over the passes, a dry, warm push that rattles the avocado groves on Escondido's slopes and tells you what this land asks of anything built on it. Landscape construction here means working with what the valley offers: granite boulders shouldering out of the hillsides, decomposed granite underfoot, grades that want terracing. JSF Landscape Construction takes Escondido ground like that and builds it into usable yard, with shaped beds, planted borders, and lawn areas laid out and kept trim. When the wind finally lies down and the air goes clear enough to pick out Palomar Mountain, a newly built yard sits as if it had always belonged to the hill.
