About Garrett's Sprinkler Service

Garrett's spends the growing season opening headgates and repairing the lines that pull water off the Bighorn River to keep Washakie County's alfalfa and bean fields green through a dry basin summer, and it closes the year running a plow instead. The first real snow usually comes after the canals have already been shut down for the season, so the crew's transition from irrigation to plowing happens almost overnight. Residential yards around Worland that Garrett's waters every summer are the same ones it clears every winter, driveway by driveway, once the canal work is done. The basin gets its cold from the Owl Creek Mountains and the high plains beyond, and a hard freeze here tends to lock snow in place rather than let it melt off during the day. By the time the ditches are frozen solid along the edges of town, Garrett's trucks are already running the residential routes instead.
