About Cloud Peak Construction

Cloud Peak Construction times its winter mornings around the mountain it's named for, sending plows out while Cloud Peak and the rest of the Bighorns are still catching the first light to the east and Worland's streets are still dark. The Bighorn Basin holds cold air well after a storm passes, so the crew often works packed, refrozen snow rather than fresh powder, cutting through it block by block along the streets nearest the river. Driveways and lots on the west side of town, in the lee of the Absarokas, tend to hold their drifts longer into the morning and get worked later in the route. By the time Cloud Peak's summit goes from pink to white-gold, the residential streets on the Bighorn River side of town are already clear. It is basin weather, cold and dry more often than snowy, but when one of those storms does arrive over Worland, the mountains on both sides watch the plows work it off before the town's day starts.
