Growin' Green

About Growin' Green

October comes fast to Wilson. The aspens above the Snake River turn all at once, frost shows up well before sunrise, and the last mow of the year carries a certain weight. Growin' Green works the whole arc leading up to it — mowing and trimming through the brief green months, edging along walks and beds, fertilization and aeration for roots that have to hold on through a hard valley winter, and the fall cleanup that puts a yard properly to bed. Grass grows here on borrowed time, between the late thaw and the first deep cold. Getting it thick, even and well-kept inside that short stretch is the whole pleasure of the work.
