About Sprinkler Works

Sprinkler Works spends its summers underground, running lines to lawns across Wheatland's in-town neighborhoods, and its winters on top of them, clearing the same driveways and walkways once the first real storm crosses the plains. Mornings after a heavy snow, the crew works block by block through the streets around the town park, clearing driveways before school buses start their rounds. A north wind off the open plains tends to drift snow against garage doors faster than it falls, so a driveway cleared at seven can need a second pass by nine. The company knows which yards it waters every July, and in January it is the same addresses getting a clean path to the sidewalk. Wheatland's grid of in-town streets, laid out flat and square against the wind, empties out fast once the plows have been through.
