Sundance Mountain rises straight up out of the north edge of town, close enough that its pine-covered flank is the first thing to catch snow and the last thing to let it go, and C4 Excavating works the driveways tucked right against that slope. A house built into the timber below the mountain gets a lane that switches back twice before it reaches the road, and after a real Black Hills storm that lane can hold snow a foot deeper than the flat ground in town. The excavator-turned-plow pushes through it in low gear, clearing a path wide enough for a truck between the pines on either side. Down in town, the same crew clears commercial lots along the highway that splits Sundance in two, keeping deliveries moving through the businesses that serve travelers passing under the mountain's shadow. It's a town shaped by that one peak at its back, and C4 Excavating's winter work follows its shape too.
