Goose Creek threads through the middle of Sheridan under a string of footbridges, and the walking path beside it is one of the first things M J & Sons Hydro-Seeding clears after an overnight snow. In summer this crew seeds the raw ground along new driveways and yards; once the season turns, the same trucks carry plows instead of tanks, working the same neighborhoods from the other direction. A path along the creek gets shoveled down to the gravel so the regulars can still walk it before work, and the driveways branching off toward the older streets near downtown get pushed back to the pavement. Willows along the creek bend under their snow load long into a Sheridan morning, dropping soft clumps onto ground that was, a few months back, this same crew's green seedbed. It's the same patient attention to a piece of ground, just aimed at moving what's fallen on it instead of growing what's under it.
