Sheridan sits low against Goose Creek, but the ranch roads climbing the benches west of town rise fast, and it's up on that higher ground that High Land Inc. does its winter work. Wind off the Bighorns loads those benchland driveways with drift long after the flatter streets in town have been plowed clear, so the truck runs a route that circles back twice on the worst mornings. A gravel lane switch-backing up toward a hillside home gets the same care as a flat driveway in town, blade angled to keep the berm from sliding back across after the next gust. From up there the ranch buildings below look small and scattered across a lot of open, snow-covered ground, with the peaks still holding a heavier white above it all. High Land Inc. keeps those higher approaches open through a Sheridan winter, when the wind does as much of the work as the storm itself.
