There is an hour in July, just after a thunderstorm has crossed Douglas, when the whole prairie smells like wet sagebrush and the lawns go almost neon. Sage Landscaping works into that stretch — mowing, edging and cleaning up yards while the ground is generous and the grass grows fast enough to notice. Come State Fair week the town fills and every front yard is on display, which makes a fine deadline to keep. The rest of the year runs quieter: a cut, a trim along the walk, clippings and leaves gathered before the wind can claim them. Douglas, Glenrock, Rolling Hills and Orin all sit inside that circle.
