Peck Excavation works ground toward Sunlight Basin and the switchbacks of the Chief Joseph country as often as it works inside Cody proper, and that's rougher, higher terrain where snow settles deep and stays long after the basin floor has thawed bare. The crew often starts before first light, running plows down long private drives so the trip out to Highway 120 is clear before anyone's due at work in town. It's quiet out there in a way Cody's own streets aren't — no traffic noise, just diesel and the scrape of blade on gravel under a sky still full of stars. Excavation in the warm months means grading these same drives so water sheds properly, and that grading pays off every winter when the plowed snow has somewhere sensible to go instead of pooling back across the road. By the time full daylight reaches the basin floor, the drives this crew ran are already carrying the day's first traffic.
