Groathouse Construction spends its summers framing houses on the flat ground north of town toward Powell, and winter turns that same crew toward keeping those job sites and driveways passable. A construction site half-finished in December is its own kind of hazard — lumber piles, open trenches, gravel drives that turn to ruts under fresh snow — and this crew clears it the way they'd clear any site, methodically, before subcontractors need to get a truck through. Around Cody the wind off the Absarokas can load a driveway with drift in an hour flat, undoing a morning's work by noon. So the passes get repeated, as many times as the weather asks for, until the site is workable again. It's less glamorous than framing a house, but it keeps the framing schedule honest.
