July on the north-side slopes above Skyline Drive is bright and merciless, and the newest lawns up there are the ones with the most to lose. The Sodfather LLC nurses young turf through those weeks — cutting high and often so nothing gets scalped, trimming carefully around fresh seams and stakes, and keeping the clippings off the walks and out of the street. Older lawns on the same route get the standard turn of mowing and edging, plus the cleanups that bookend the season at this altitude. From up there the town spreads out toward the river and the mountain sits square on the horizon. It is a good place to watch a bare lot turn into a lawn somebody's kids will run across.
