Boulder sits where the sage flats of the upper Green River country run straight into the foot of the Wind River Range, granite peaks holding snow long after the valley floor below them has dried back to dust color most of the year. High Desert Plowing works that exact seam, its name less a slogan than a description of the ground it covers — dry, high, and open, until a storm drops down off the Winds and changes the math for a few days at a time. Boulder Lake freezes over below the peaks each winter, a still white field where summer had brought anglers and campers up from the valley, and the access road in gets plowed only as far as anyone still needs to reach it. Ranch driveways out here run long across open country, built for a truck rather than a sidewalk, and the plow work reflects that — wide passes, few tight corners, distances measured in minutes between properties rather than feet. High Desert Plowing clears ranch driveways, access roads, and the odd small lot around Boulder, working the same high, dry ground that gives the business its name.
