Leave the bottomland here and the streets start to climb — Parkersburg piles itself up the hillsides, and half the yards in town sit at an angle a mower has to be walked, not ridden. Codys Cutts takes those slopes the way you have to take them, across the grade and steady, then trims the terrace walls and edges the drive where it drops toward the road. Late afternoon is the good hour for it, when the hill throws shade over half a lawn and the cut stripes show up green on green. The result is worth the burn in your legs: a hillside lot that looks deliberate instead of overgrown. Work spreads out from the Emerson Avenue side of town into the neighborhoods above and below it.
