Out past Cassville the lots open up and the mowing changes character — hayfield on one side of the line, kept turf on the other, and room enough to swing wide without lifting the deck. Floyd's Landscaping takes that big country ground in late August, when the hollows above Scotts Run go dusty and the grass only pushes hard after a rain. Wide open lawns show every wobble, so the passes get laid down straight and the perimeter gets trimmed where fence posts and locust trunks interrupt it. Feeding in the fall is what carries those exposed acres through the next dry stretch. A farmhouse yard cut end to end in one afternoon is a good thing to look back at from the road.
