Early October turns the hillsides above Morris Park to rust and gold, and every terraced yard on those streets fills faster than a rake can follow. Stewart and Kerens works the last hour of daylight up there, mowing the narrow benches between retaining walls, trimming the risers by hand, and clearing leaves off the steps and the stone. A hillside lawn is really three small lawns stacked, and each one earns its own pass and its own crisp edge. When the cutting season closes they take it down even and haul the debris off so the ground goes into winter tidy. Then in April they open it back up — first cut, edges reset, thin patches seeded — and the whole slope comes back green.
