Just above town the West Fork and the Tygart Valley run together to make one river, and the grass in that bottomland grows like it knows it. River Run Landscape Co works those low, wide yards in the long light of a summer afternoon, when the heat lets go and the mower leaves stripes you can read from the porch. Mowing, string trimming along foundations and fence lines, edging where lawn meets drive, and carrying the clippings away — the work is plain and the result is not. Bottom ground can run rank through a wet July, so they keep a rhythm instead of staging a rescue. Late in the year they come back for the leaf work, and in spring they overseed the thin places the high water left behind.
