Lawn Overdue

About Lawn Overdue

Give the Kanawha valley a week of June rain and a yard in Dunbar will go from tidy to knee-high while nobody is looking. That is the yard Lawn Overdue likes best — the one that got away, brought back down in stages so the turf is never scalped, then trimmed, edged and cleared until it is hard to believe it is the same address. After the rescue comes the routine: regular mowing, string trimming around posts and steps, beds kept from swallowing the walkway. Autumn means leaf cleanup, and the river-bottom trees around here produce plenty of it. Nothing is ever too far gone out here; it just wants a mower and an afternoon.
