The first cut of the year in Dunbar usually arrives in a warm stretch of late March, when the valley greens up well ahead of the hills standing over it. Lawnworks gets ready for it early — blades honed, deck set right — because a clean cut is mostly a question of what the grass is cut with. From there it is the weekly turn through town: mowing, string trimming along fences and foundations, edging the walks, drives cleared before the truck pulls away. Mulch goes down when the beds ask for it, and the shrubs get shaped before summer makes that job harder. By October the work is leaves, and by the last cut the yards look trimmed down and ready for the cold.
