About Brightside Landscape Design

Late June light lands long and low on the older streets of Charles Town, running gold across brick sidewalks and picket fences, and it flatters a well-drawn yard the way nothing else can. Brightside Landscape Design begins on paper — where a bed should curve, which shrubs will hold their shape beside a porch, what carries color through the gap between spring bulbs and high summer — and then plants it and tends it. Beds get renovated, edges cut clean, mulch spread dark and even from the foundation out to the last shrub. The lawn is treated as part of the composition rather than the leftover space around it. Long after planting day the shape still reads, which is the whole point of designing a yard instead of merely filling it.
