Maple Leaf Inc.

About Maple Leaf Inc.

There is a maple on nearly every block in this town, and it does two big things a year. In October it turns the street orange and then drops all of it in about four days, which is when Maple Leaf Inc. shows up with rakes and blowers and a truck, closing out a season of mowing, trimming, edging, bed care and mulch. In January the same tree stands bare and holding snow, and the same crew is underneath it with a plow, opening the drive and clearing the walk to the door. Verona's year swings hard between those two pictures. Working both ends of it is the job, and there is satisfaction in knowing a property that well — how it drains, where it drifts, which corner always needs a second pass.
