Mist comes off Tainter Lake on summer mornings, and by the time it burns away Amundson is already mowing. The work is exactly what the name says — lawn mowing, done in clean lines, on the yards and lake lots north of Menomonie. Shoreline grass grows thick off lake air and long June light, and it looks its best cut fresh, sloping green down to the water. There's no hurry in the method, just the steady back-and-forth that leaves a yard settled and even. On this shore, that's the whole job, and it's enough.
