The ground rises north of Sussex toward Colgate and Merton, glacial ridges with woodlots along their backs, and late in November those hills are the first thing to go white. Wally's Landscape Co is out ahead of the turn — the last leaf hauls, the final cut, the beds trimmed back — and then straight into plowing, shoveling and salting once the cold sets in for good. A driveway up on a windy ridge fills back in fast, so it gets opened wide and cleared to the surface rather than skimmed. When April finally comes the plows give way to mowers again: cutting, trimming, edging and fresh mulch around the shrubs. Same yards, same people, two entirely different jobs.
