About Gruff's Lawn & Service

October is the hinge of the year in Superior. The maples along Hammond Avenue let go all at once, the lake takes on that flat pewter it will hold until spring, and every outfit in town trades the mower deck for a plow. Gruff's works both ends of that hinge — mowing, trimming and leaf cleanup while the grass still has ambition, then plowing and shoveling drives, walks and lots once it doesn't. There's a rhythm to it: rake until the yards are bare, push snow until they're buried, then start the whole loop over. Nothing about a year at the head of the bay is subtle, and neither is the equipment it takes to keep up with one.
