The Other Side Lawn Care

About The Other Side Lawn Care

There is a Saturday in June when Mathias Mitchell Public Square fills up with tomato starts and rhubarb, and the whole town seems to agree that things ought to be green. The Other Side Lawn Care spends that stretch of the calendar on Stevens Point yards — mowing, trimming, edging, keeping the beds in order through the growing months and hauling the leaves away when the maples finally let go. Sandy central Wisconsin ground can dry out and shoot up in the same week, so the mowing takes on a rhythm, a route walked and re-walked while the evening light stretches toward nine o'clock. The pleasure is all in the finish: stripes laid straight, the boundary between turf and sidewalk cut sharp, the smell of fresh clippings hanging over a street that has just been put right. Whichever side of the fence you happen to be standing on, a yard looks better when somebody has bothered with the borders.
