Dave's Service Center

About Dave's Service Center

On a January night in Star Prairie you can hear the Apple River still moving under the ice below the dam, and not much else — until the plow trucks start. Dave's Service Center runs when the snow does, clearing driveways and lots in the village and out along the township roads while most of the town is asleep. St. Croix County storms like to arrive after dark and keep going; the answer is to keep going too, pass after pass, until the banks are pushed back square and the pavement shows. Sand and salt go down where the hills demand it. By the time the school lights come on, the way out is open, which is the whole job in one sentence.
