Sheboygan County Shed

About Sheboygan County Shed

At three in the morning a lake-effect band comes ashore off Lake Michigan and Sheboygan goes silent underneath it, the harbor lights smeared, the breakwater past the river mouth lost in the dark. Sheboygan County Shed is out in that hour, plowing drives and lots so the city can behave normally by seven. Snow gets pushed back to the edges, walks get cleared down to the concrete, and the entrances people actually use are opened first. There is a plain pride in rolling up at dawn to a property already handled — tire tracks erased, the path to the door wide enough for two. By the time Eighth Street is moving again, the storm belongs to somebody else's memory.
