The old rail bed that became the Kenosha County Bike Trail cuts a long straight seam through Salem Lakes, and the yards along it turn gold before the fields do. Grass Groomers Landscaping runs the September route with the deck set high, trimming close to fence lines and edging drives where turf wants to creep over the concrete. Fall cleanups follow — leaves off the beds, the lawn opened back up to light ahead of frost. Nothing about it is complicated; it is simply done, and done again next week. The route covers Salem Lakes, Trevor, Wilmot, Paddock Lake and Bristol.
