Come the third week of September, the maples around Phelps go scarlet and the whole town seems lit from inside. Phelps Landscaping LLC does its finishing work against that backdrop — lawns mowed clean and edged sharp, yards raked and readied before the first hard frost slides down from the border country. Through the summer they keep the growing side of things in hand for homes and cabins around town and the nearby lakes. In a place this far north the green months are precious, and the crew treats every one of them that way.
