When the lifts come out and the docks are stacked up the bank, the lakefront changes jobs. Minocqua Dock & Lift stays down at the water's edge all winter, plowing the steep shoreline drives, clearing the stairs and decks that step toward the ice, and laying sand and salt where the grade turns slick underfoot. Shore roads here keep their own weather: wind straight off open lake, drifts rebuilt an hour after they were cut. Opening them before daylight is what keeps a house on the water reachable for the whole season rather than only between storms.
