Orchard Lawn

About Orchard Lawn

October is the month Mineral Point saves its best light for, low and gold across the hill toward the water tower, and it is also the month that buries every lawn in town. Orchard Lawn spends it under the old maples and fruit trees, moving leaf by leaf and yard by yard until the grass shows again. The rest of the year is mowing and trimming and the steady upkeep that makes an autumn like this manageable, edges held, growth kept even, nothing allowed to get ahead of the crew. There is real satisfaction in the last pass of a fall cleanup: bare turf, swept walks, the wheelbarrow empty, a yard set down for the cold. Come April the same lawns get opened back up, and the whole circle starts again.
