The Secret Garden

About The Secret Garden

There is a hush along the Milwaukee River where it slides under the bridge at Thiensville, and something of that hush belongs to gardens too, especially at dusk in late May when the light turns green under the maples. The Secret Garden tends Mequon lawns in that spirit — grass mown, beds kept, borders held in a soft line rather than a hard one, so a yard reads less as managed than simply as well. In winter the same attention turns practical: drives and walks opened while the river runs black between white banks, the path to the door clear before anybody needs it. Lake-effect weather arrives here on a northeast wind and can bury a morning without asking, which is why the shovel and the mower share one shed. A property is a year-long conversation, and this is both halves of it, answered on time.
